Who we are
Tripkin (“Tripkin,” “we,” “us”) provides a mobile app for planning and taking group trips. This policy covers the Tripkin app and this website. You can reach us any time at hello@tripkin.app.
Information we collect
Account information
You sign in with Google. We receive and store your basic profile — your name, email address and profile photo — to create your account and identify you to the people you travel with. We do not receive your Google password.
Trip content
When you create or join a trip, we store the trip details you and your group add: the trip name and destination, dates, budget, interests, generated itinerary, expenses you log for splitting costs, and your membership in the trip. Your name and photo are shown to other members of the same trip.
Location information
Location sharing is optional and off until you turn it on for a trip. See Location sharing below for exactly how it works and what we store.
Device & push tokens
If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can send you trip alerts (for example, when your itinerary is ready). The token is removed when you sign out.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by the Apple App Store and Google Play through our payments provider, RevenueCat. We receive a record of what you purchased (trip credits and replacement credits) linked to your account. We never receive or store your card or bank details.
Support communications
If you email us for support, we keep your message and contact details to respond and improve the app.
How we use your information
- To provide the app: accounts, trips, itineraries, budgets and group features.
- To generate AI itineraries based on your trip parameters (see below).
- To share your location with your trip group, only when you turn it on.
- To send trip-related notifications you've enabled.
- To process purchases and grant the credits you bought.
- To provide support, keep the service secure, and comply with the law.
AI itinerary generation
To build an itinerary we send a limited set of trip parametersto our AI provider, Anthropic: the destination, trip dates, group size, who you're travelling as (e.g. solo, couple, friends, family), budget amount and currency, trip intensity, interests and language. We do not send your name, email, photo or GPS location to the AI. Generated itineraries may be cached and reused to serve similar trips faster.
Location sharing
- Off by default. Location is only shared after you turn it on for a specific trip.
- Foreground by default. We use “While Using the App” location. Background (“Always”) sharing is a separate, explicit opt-in for when the app is closed.
- Trip-scoped and time-limited. Sharing is tied to one trip and automatically stops after the trip ends. You can turn it off any time.
- What we store: your latitude, longitude, accuracy, name, photo and a timestamp, saved to that trip so its members can see each other on the map.
- SOS: if you trigger SOS, your current location is shared with your trip group as a safety alert.
How your information is shared
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only in these ways:
- With your trip members — your name, photo, trip contributions and (if enabled) your location.
- With service providers who process data on our behalf: Google Firebase (accounts, database, notifications), Anthropic (AI itineraries), RevenueCat with Apple and Google (purchases), Mapbox and OpenStreetMap (maps and geocoding), Google Places (place search), Unsplash and Wikipedia (destination photos), Open-Meteo (weather), and Expo (app platform).
- For legal reasons — if required by law or to protect the safety and rights of our users.
No advertising or tracking
Tripkindoes not use advertising networks and does not include third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We don't build advertising profiles or track you across other apps and websites.
Data retention & deleting your account
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app. Deleting your account removes your profile, device tokens, wallet and credit history, and your membership in trips; if you organised a trip, it is either handed off to another member or deleted if no one remains. This also deletes your sign-in account. Some records may persist briefly in backups or where retention is legally required.
Security
We use Google Firebase's managed infrastructure and access rules so that data is only readable by the people who should see it (for example, trip data is limited to that trip's members). No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Tripkin is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal information. You can exercise many of these directly in the app, or contact us at hello@tripkin.appand we'll help.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll change the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
